""Tension
is who you think you should be. Relaxation is who you are."
- Japanese Proverb Interesting quote this month. I think about how tense I have felt recently wanting to get my newsletter written, even setting time aside to do it and then having the time used up with preparing for my bookkeeper to come. I hear from clients all the time about how they have these great plans and then something else just “shows up”. Once I got my prep done for the bookkeeper I was totally relaxed and relieved and just me as opposed to the person I thought I “should” be. Taking the time to create space for what I want to happen. This is what’s perfect about doing retreats as well. Setting aside the time to dust off who you are and create the space for what you want. I am doing a weekend retreat this month with three women on one of the Gulf Islands and so looking forward to it. Looking forward to witnessing the dissipation of the tension and creating the space for what they want and feeling relaxed enough to discover and be just who they are. My wish for you is to purposefully and consciously take the time to create the space for what you want. I am thrilled for my clients who have done so and as a result are creating lives for themselves that are more about who they are than who they think they “should” be. Why not call me at 888-391-2233 and we can talk about creating a retreat just for you. Want to share your story with us? Send an email to clutter@ascentcoaching.com - Linda Excuse Me, your Life is Waiting ISBN –1-57174-381-2 This book was just recommended to me by a client a few months ago. Lynn writes about how our feelings: good, bad, up, down and everything in between have a direct correlation to what we attract. This book is about the Law of Attraction. What makes this one different than others I have read is that the author talks about the flow of energy, the way in which we can create and manifest in our lives those things and situations that sustain and enrich our lives. Things such as fulfilling work, increased finances, healthy and powerful relationships. This is a book about creating on purpose, being purposeful about putting our energy and feelings into what we do want not what we think we cannot have. Some people may find this book a bit edgy and far-fetched at times. I encourage you to have a look and challenge yourself to read beyond and think a little differently about how you manage your life and what your feelings can teach you about yourself. Since downsizing to a smaller home we have had to really make a conscious decision to be selective about what we bring into our home. We are much choosier about finding the perfect items to meet our needs and have learned to be patient (me especially) to rule out impulse and great deal buying. We have also had to get really creative in finding space saving storage systems. Here are a few tricks for keeping things organized and in their place. Product Warranties and Owner’s Manuals
Back of Door Hanging Shoe Organizers In the Garage; small bike tire pump, flashlight, duct tape, utility scissors, WD 40, lint roller, roll of shop towels, hammer, tape measure, tire gauge. In the Bathroom; rolls of toilet paper, extra toothpaste, soaps, children’s bath toys, even rolled face cloths and hand towels. If you have a few people sharing a single bathroom label one row per person. This can free up counter space and keep all the bits and pieces tucked away behind the door. In the Office; extra office supplies and those not necessarily needed at arms reach such as the hole-punch, staples, blank disks, tape, extra post its, head set, batteries. If you need a visually clutter-free space to avoid distraction do this only if you have a closet in your office. If you are a visual person who needs to see it to remember to use it then this could work on the back of the door in to your office. Warning! I know what you are thinking; won’t this become a clutter collector? Yes, if you abuse the system. Don’t cram things in because the space is there and you can’t control the urge to fill it. Put only one item in per pouch, unless they are multiples like soaps or related items like masking tape and duct tape. Edit often and get creative. I recently heard of someone tailoring his shoe organizer to fit the cupboard door beneath the kitchen sink, attaching it with a staple gun to hold cleaning products and pot scrubbers.

Isn't it time you put yourself first?
Happy Thanksgiving to all our US readers this month and I hope all of our Canadian readers enjoyed a restful Thanksgiving in October with some good food and good folks to share it with. Had a busy October with a delightful start attending a client’s wedding in Sedona Az. then visiting my coach in Scottsdale and being pampered at the spa for an entire afternoon. My skin and feet still look and feel great. That’s the thing about self-care. So good for us physically and spiritually yet frequently at the bottom of the list. There’s nothing like a retreat for the good of the soul. I spent much of October working with some fabulous teams both locally and away. Team dynamics are so interesting and just that; dynamic. I get very excited when I can work with a group to facilitate positive change and further the feeling of connection amongst team members. Solid teams do outstanding things together. I am looking forward to doing a retreat with three women this month on a tiny little island that is accessible only by a passenger ferry, which means no vehicles. I have never been there (Protection Island) although I anticipate it to have quite a rural feel as well as being spectacularly beautiful. If I remember I’ll take a photo and pass it along. I’m also facilitating a day workshop for women on yet another Island who are interested in becoming self-employed and want to learn some peer coaching skills to support each other in their endeavors. Always something new and interesting for me it seems with my work and now with my new office it is even more delightful to work in a beautiful environment surrounded by nature. -Linda We are pretty much settled in now. Finally got the driveway and porch poured which has reduced the dirt factor in the house and we now get to park in the garage. Heavenly! Looks like the exterior door painting and most of the landscaping will have to wait till Spring now due to a very rainy October. Just a few more pictures to hang, which we will do this weekend. Our built-in cabinets by the fireplace are being installed this month and then we can hang the pictures in the living room and finish up that space and the surround for the fireplace. I am so looking forward to that as it will complete all the interior carpentry that needs to be done and it will feel like the house is really finished. I have included several pictures of different parts of the interior of the house so you can have a peek at what I am talking about and where we got to on this journey of house building. Click here to see the photos. There are the obvious pictures of the living room complete with the covers on the chairs to reduce the clutter of animal hair on the furniture. All you animal lovers will completely get that. We of course remove them for company but seeing as you guys all feel like family now I left them on when I took the picture :~) LOVE our kitchen and dining room and having such an open yet warm feel to it. There are pictures of the front door, front hall, more office plus pictures of outside my office and off the upstairs deck, the guest room and guest bath (fun room), the fir stairs that still require staining and the interesting painting detail that our painter did on the flat ceilings. Oh yes, and a picture of the mudroom/laundry room with an eight foot coat closet. Can you imagine ALL your coats in one place? Perfect. We are thoroughly enjoying walking to the Village instead of driving everywhere. The Village comes complete with a Post Office where we pick up our mail, video store, auction house, a few old fashioned bars, a butcher, a few bake shops, coffee bar with an excellent Latte, library and a few restaurants. We went to a Rotary Italian dinner in the Village last month and had the pleasure of walking there in the nice crisp air with the stars shining brightly in the sky on our walk home. We’ve also had the pleasure (?) of seeing a bear front and center in front of our house last week in the wee hours of the morning eating the garbage that the neighbors had negligently left outside the night before garbage day. Our dear dog Misty alerted us to the bear with her growling, sniffing and pacing around our bedroom. We had next to no sleep after that, as she just wouldn’t settle down. Life in the Village is never dull it seems. I will send some outside photos and the photo of our built-in living room cupboards next month as well as continued life in the wee village of Cumberland. This has been a good move for us. -Linda For
